Selecting an Analog Front-End for Imaging Applications

چکیده

INTRODUCTION Every imaging system starts with an image sensor. The signal from the sensor must be processed in the analog domain, converted to digital, and further processed in the digital domain. This allows the image to be analyzed, manipulated, and enhanced, prior to storage, display, transmission, and/or further processing. Imaging applications typically involve three chips—an image sensor, an analog front-end (AFE), and a digital ASIC. The AFE conditions the analog signal received from the image sensor and performs the analog-to-digital (A/D) conversion. The digital ASIC contains image-processing and timing-generation circuitry. Figure 1 shows a block diagram of a typical imaging system. Additional application-specific circuitry following the digital imageprocessing ASIC depends upon whether the imaging system is a camera, scanner or copier.

A New Analog-based LO Harmonic Rejection Technique with Tunable Notch Frequency

An effective technique for mixer LO harmonic rejection in a SAW-less wideband receiver front-end is proposed. The proposed technique provides a tunable notch that can be placed at any frequency like mixer LO harmonics, to avoid the aliasing in baseband after mixing. An analog LC notch is used in a cascode transconductor, and it can reject one of the 3rd or 5th harmonics. T...

Selecting Amplifiers, ADCs, and Clocks for High-Performance Signal Paths (PDF)

Modern communication and measurement system designs are increasing in complexity as the latest high-performance processors and DSPs enable new signal-processing techniques. As system requirements for speed and resolution increase, more capable Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADCs) emerge, and these in turn require higher-performance Analog Front Ends (AFEs). In many systems the AFE can be conside...

Analog Front End Low Noise Amplifier in 0.18-μm CMOS for Ultrasound Imaging Applications

We present the design of Analog front end (AFE) low noise pre-amplifier implemented in a high voltage 0.18-μm CMOS technology for a three dimensional ultrasound bio microscope (3D UBM) application. The fabricated chip has 4X16 pre-amplifiers implemented to interface a 2-D array of high frequency capacitive micro-machined ultrasound transducers (CMUT). Core AFE cell consists of a high-voltage pu...

Development of a CMOS low-noise analog front-end ASIC for X-ray imaging applications

High density compound materials (CdTe, GaAs, HgI2) are currently evaluated as direct photon conversion sensors for applications in X-ray imaging. A new front-end stage has been designed with the aim to be implemented as readout chain in a luggage inspection system based on a linear array of CdTe sensors. Both types of electron or hole collecting CdTe sensors will be evaluated. Each detecting el...

Reconfigurable Ultrasonic Testing System Development Using Programmable Analog Front-End and Reconfigurable System-on-Chip Hardware

Ultrasonic testing systems have been extensively used in medical imaging and non-destructive testing applications. Generally, these systems aim at a particular application or target material. To make these systems portable and more adaptable to the test environments, this study presents a reconfigurable ultrasonic testing system (RUTS), which possesses dynamic reconfiguration capabilities. RUTS...
